Do we really need Missile Defense?

The Pentagon said they had a successful test of its missile shield program as an interceptor missile hit a long-range ballistic missile, but the missile had failed to deploy counter measures. Proponents say this is no big deal, but critics point out that any nation that is working on creating such missiles would develop countermeasures on their missiles, therefore this test did not conclude anything.

I have always thought the missile shield was a waste of money and should only be deployed when the technology is available and cheaper. I do not think any nation is going to launch a missile towards the United States and expose themselves against our vast arsenal of nuclear missiles. More likely targets would be our troops and bases in the middle east or south east Asia. Most of our enemies these days are no name, country-less terrorists. We are more likely to face a threat from our ports and borders then from a missile from an enemy nation like Iran or North Korea. We should be using this money to insure we scan more cargo entering our ports to make sure dirty bombs or other weapons are not smuggled into our country.

Every country knows they can not win a conventional war against the United States, I highly doubt that our enemies will launch a conventional attack against us especially since a nation like Iran could use its proxy forces such as Hezbollah. They can attack military and soft targets or use other methods to hurt the United States monetarily and remain faceless, but still achieve their goals. Missile defense will be a part of our arsenal in the future, I just think we should wait until better technology is available instead of trying to make these false tests look successful.

Love him? Hate him? How do YOU feel about our soon to be former President? Take part in a chance to immortalize your views in book form by visiting http://goodbyegeorgew.com/ and letting your opinion be read!

Check out the following article about http://goodbyegeorgew.com/:

GOODBYE GEORGE W. WEBSITE STARTS NEW MOVEMENT FOR DEMOCRACY

With the whole world watching the Obama transition kick in it’s easy to forget about the outgoing warmongerer-in-chief who rode to political power on his daddy’s coat-tails. Without so much as winning the popular vote the first time around George W. Bush took the White House in 2000. In 2004 he stayed the course for a second term thanks to classic Klan-style intimidation tactics in battleground states that squeaked the Bush /Cheney team back in for a total eight years on Pennsylvania Avenue. Surprisingly enough some semblance of Planet Earth survived and in retrospect we will miss the factual misstatements and grammatical blunders of the Presidential Poster boy for “No Child Left Behind” education.

Before he leaves office U.S. citizens and people form around the world are finally getting their chance to tell President Bush what they think. The new website www.goodbyegeorgew.com is building the democracy that the Bush Administration has worked so hard to erode. While welcoming sarcasm it is providing a general forum to write to the soon-to-be-unemployed President and give him your candid opinion by speaking out.

Letters are actively being sought to put the democracy and free speech back into America despite the hard work of the Homeland security team to eradicate it forever.

Of course this Goodbye George W. site comes replete with great political memorabilia on sale for the “historical” collectors. But what caught my attention is that the founder, Kate Wheeler, who I recently spoke with, is not making a hard sell on her goods but is more interested in putting the participation back into democracy and American politics.

This farewell to Bush will later be published into an e-book so anyone leaving their comments will be a part of this historic catharsis and collector’s item in itself.

I hope that the incoming President will get a hint from this as well and seek his own avenues to stay in touch with the opinion of the people that he was elected to represent. Once in office it wouldn’t be a shock if he gives his ears principally to the likes of Citigroup and J.P. Morgan, who were among the 10 biggest donors to the Obama campaign, (despite his “no strings attached campaign” propaganda).

The real change America needs is a White House and Government that listen to the people and www.goodbyegeorgew.com is a step in the right direction. It gives ordinary space for people to send our opinions to Washington. Of course, in this case, we’re giving our opinion to the man who is packing his bags (hallelujah), but it’s a good start on bringing back real democracy.

Anyone interested in setting a new course for democracy in this country should click over to this website and write their own heartfelt send off to the man who stole the presidency and steered a course into the diplomatic dark ages.

what most liberals with whom I've spoken (and debated) don't seem to understand that our new enemy (terrorists) do not play by any of our nice, matured rules like "you don't cut soldiers' heads off in front of a video camera and put it online as a political/war stunt." if they don't play by the rules, there is no way to sufficiently oppose them within our own rule system (ie: no torture). I am not a pacifist though I wouldn't hurt a fly -- war, defense, and offense is a necessary evil of humanity.

I am tired of all the Obama bashing being generated from the right wing of this country. We are at the point where even the Burak Obama supporters are questioning his competence and the direction in which he is driving America. Why is our president more popular in Europe and Asia than he is in the U.S.? Because the GOP media and politicians, who act like spoiled brats, kick and scream louder than majority. They have no platform other than to disagree with Obama, to avoid being marginalized. These blowhards including Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin know that the squeaky wheel gets the grease, even though so much of what they holler about has no merit.
My question is…Where are all the people that were apart of the greatest political and social victory in the history of our country? One year ago African Americans were basically vindicated and released from 300 years of oppression and segregation by the conservative shackles put upon them. This was not only a victory for them but for all Americans of color or those with a social conscious. Our American brothers and sisters that were all for change, that come from India, Africa, China, Japan, South America, Central America and on and on, this was a victory and redemption for all of you. This was the moment in time when all of these citizens were given the opportunity to be a legitimate piece of the American fabric, to take what has always been rightfully yours, and take action to help advance our country back into the global leader that we had once been. Not from a military standpoint but from a social, economic and humanitarian standpoint.
When I look at what is going on through the media, in communities, social networking, to see what is going on with the Change that we all wanted, supported and won, I see much more effort and discussion spent on figuring out why Oprah is canceling her show or if Lebron is going to NY or Miami.
I realize times are tough and so many of us are worried about jobs, medical insurance and losing our homes, but what is happening is that the imperial warlords that want their bombs and power back are taking advantage of the diversion to our problems, to kick our guy out of office.
Remember what got us here. Stop eating that bag of Cheetos in front of the TV, and make something happen. “Ask not what our county can do for you…”. YOUR country is working for you, now help our president achieve the things we all gathered around and supported, and let’s build this country into what we always dreamed it could be, the reason we all came here or live here in the first place.
If you don’t, you will have wasted a monumental opportunity that will probably not come back to you in your lifetime.
